Starch dry hydrolysates: Supply upheavals against a stable demand

The supply market of starch dry hydrolysates has undergone significant changes during Covid and post-Covid, particularly in Western countries. The rising energy cost has significantly impacted the drying and crystallization of products, resulting in substantial price hikes for items such as dextrose and maltodextrin. The production of these starch dry hydrolysates has decreased significantly in Europe and North America over the past two years (2021 and 2022). However, the rapid recovery of both food and non-food applications has created a strong demand for these products, resulting in even higher prices. To meet this demand, Western countries have imported large quantities of dextrose and maltodextrin from Asia, primarily from China. In 2022, energy prices come down in Western countries, and the production of starch dry hydrolysates in Europe (dextrose and maltodextrin) is back to normal, and prices are almost back to 2019 levels.?
