Stanford/Elsevier 2% list

Recently there have been several posts on LinkedIn regarding the Stanford/Elsevier top 2% ranking list. I could not stop myself from have a look at this and exploring who is included or not in this list. I don't want to name specific colleagues here, so I will put my observations in a more neutral format. But I can report that out of 95 Fellows of IBPSA (the International Building Performance Simulation Association), 27 are included in the top 2% list. Similarly, 4 out of the 12 committee members of EG-ICE (European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering) are listed. Which goes to show that these groups are having decent traction in this view of academic performance. At the same time, I noted that some of the giants of the field from the past are not there, or are clearly slowly dropping out - so the 2% list is mostly a reflection on active people only. For overall legacy I would recommend looking at other metrics. One also needs to look at the categories - there are main fields and subfields with more details, but where everyone fits seems a bit crude to me - we see "built environment and design" as a prime category, but no "building science", "building physics" etc. For anyone wanting to have a look for themselves, you can access these lists via World's Top 2% Scientists (topresearcherslist.com).
