Standing united

I am greatly saddened and troubled over the tragic deaths of George Floyd and other Black citizens, and we know many in our KPMG family are hurting. As protests and social unrest continue to unfold, we are leaning into our values and purpose, which require us to speak up and support one another.

To that end, we are standing united with people across the country and, in particular, the Black community and our Black colleagues, in denouncing hate and racism. We must work together to combat hate and racism and together we are hopeful for change.

We will engage in a sustained and difficult conversation on matters of race, equity and inclusion. Recognizing the humanity in one another is especially important during this time, but it's also not enough. We have to achieve real equity and inclusion. We have to be vigilant in that pursuit and understand it's not a journey with a destination but one we embark upon with honesty, courage, humility, and passion. We have a responsibility to stand up and speak up for what we believe. We stand together, for better, as we pursue equity and justice.

Since last week, Lynne Doughtie and I have been in regular communication with our employees to reiterate these messages and support them. And this engagement will continue. It must continue. Our culture will always be a place where all people are embraced and included. I look forward to listening, learning, and engaging with our people and the broader business community on this issue.
