Over the years working with many clients in the region, I’ve developed six essential strategies.
These can help you make a lasting impression when you’re looking for your next career move.
Know the Company Like an Insider
- Understanding the company’s core values, recent projects, and leadership approach is key.
- In the GCC, showing respect for a company’s achievements and culture goes a long way.
- Before any interview, I invest time in researching not only the company’s website but also recent news, ensuring my insights feel genuine and tailored.
Cultural Awareness is Your Power Move
- Awareness of cultural norms in the GCC shows respect and professionalism.
- Use formal titles, acknowledge hierarchy, and be mindful of body language.
- In my experience, candidates who display cultural sensitivity instantly establish rapport with decision-makers.
Be Specific with Your Achievements
- When describing your accomplishments, quantify them giving clear focused examples.
- Instead of “improved processes,” say “increased efficiency by 20% within six months.”
- Numbers lend credibility, and I have seen how specific, measurable outcomes help clients leave a memorable impression.
Showcase Your Problem-Solving Skills
- Leaders in the GCC value proactive thinkers.
- Share real-life examples of challenges you’ve overcome, highlighting the impact on your team or company.
- I’ve often witnessed how problem-solving examples reflect resilience and the ability to contribute to the team and organisation’s success.
- Asking insightful questions about the company’s strategic goals or upcoming projects shows genuine interest.
- One of my favourite techniques is to ask about the challenges the team currently faces.
- This signals that you’re already considering how you can add value.
Follow Up, but Keep It Brief and Professional
- A simple, genuine follow-up email expressing appreciation and restating your interest makes a difference.
- Remember, consistency in follow-up without overdoing it reflects well in the GCC, where relationship-building is often gradual and respectful.
- Standing out at interviews means going beyond standard answers; it’s about connecting with your interviewer and the company’s values.
- These six strategies are based on my experience, and they’ve helped professionals like you succeed in this dynamic region.
- Try them out and let me know how you get on.
