What should we be testing then?

Below is an example for an HDBaseT installation but testing should apply across AVoIP as well as HDBaseT. 

1/ Cable Infrastructure – This is critical for both new and existing cable infrastructure. 

Whether HDMI, HDBaseT or AVoIP or a hybrid of all three, DC Resistance is extremely important when you are considering 4K video.

Every category cable has four twisted pairs and when 4K is transmitted down those twisted pairs it creates artefacts with power delivery that can lead to performance and stability degradation.

Testing the DC resistance between these pairs will show up any imbalances and loop resistance within the cable.

If your client has the budget, you can opt [ET1] for a specialist cable like the HDBaseT Belden 2183 or Extron’s XTP DTP 24. These cables are designed to provide high performance and reliability when streaming 4K video.

2/ Each Link within the installation - This means rather than simply installing everything with fingers crossed, the installer could be testing each link within the installation to ensure a problem free and robust installation. With a testing device like the award-winning
