Standing Naked on the Hiway
For us authors, the journey from manuscript to publication is often an emotional rollercoaster. As the release date of our book nears, the excitement of sharing our work with the world is often shadowed by a profound sense of anxiety.
I remember just before my first book was about to be released I heard another new author say that she felt like she was standing naked on the hiway. It is a very vulnerable position to be in.
We’ve put our heart and soul into our book. Yet questions swirl: Will people like it? Did I miss something crucial? What if it fails?
This anxiety stems from vulnerability. A book is more than just a collection of words; it’s a piece of the author’s soul, painstakingly crafted over months or years. Releasing it to the public feels like exposing an intimate part of ourselves to judgment. Negative reviews, poor sales, or even silence from the market can feel deeply personal, leaving us grappling with self-doubt.
Compounding this is the unpredictability of readers’ responses. Even with meticulous editing, marketing efforts, and beta feedback, no author can fully anticipate how their work will resonate. This uncertainty breeds a unique kind of fear.

Yet, amidst the apprehension lies hope. For every doubt, there’s the possibility of connection, of a reader finding solace, inspiration, or joy in the story. Ultimately, the act of publishing is a leap of faith, where anxiety and hope intertwine in the pursuit of creativity’s ultimate reward: impact.
I share this with you as I am about to release the third book in the NAMELESS Trilogy. I’ve poured over this manuscript for most of this year. This third book has a unique twist in that characters from the first two books are included in it.
Of course there are also the angels and demons from the previous books and the powerful Voice of Promise.
