Standing Against Hate and a Commitment to the Good Fight

Standing Against Hate and a Commitment to the Good Fight

The morning after the election, I woke up with a heavy heart. The results weren’t just disappointing, they were crushing. It’s not just about politics. It’s about people. It’s about the very real impact this will have on those who are marginalized, vulnerable, and already fighting uphill battles every single day. The most painful realization? Knowing that people I’ve shared meals and conversations with, people I’ve laughed with, could support candidates and policies rooted in hate, lies, and threats to others.

How can we be so disconnected? How can some of us look past blatant cruelty, past the harm inflicted on our neighbors, and justify it with a shrug or a soundbite? I’ve spent hours replaying conversations in my head, trying to make sense of it. But there is no justification for standing on the side of hate. None.

This hurts. Deeply. But I refuse to let this be the end of the story. If this election has taught me anything, it’s that the fight is far from over, and I will not stand by silently. I will channel this pain into action. I will stand up to hate, not with the same vitriol and anger I see from those who embrace it, but with relentless commitment, compassion, and courage.

I have privilege, and I will use it. I will amplify the voices of those who are silenced. I will be the loud echo for those fighting for their rights, their safety, their very existence. I will fight with all my being, not for personal glory or recognition, but because it is the right thing to do. I will stand in the way of hate and say, “No. Not here.”

But beyond fighting, I want to build. I want to build a community where people feel seen, valued, and safe. My space, whether it’s a room, a conversation, or a simple interaction, will always be a refuge for those who need it. No one will ever have to question if they belong with me. They do. And I will remind them of that, especially when the world feels unbearably cruel.

I know this road won’t be easy. It will be exhausting and sometimes disheartening. But I believe in people. I believe in the power of connection, in the transformative impact of love and justice. I will seek out those who strive to do better, who reject the pull of fear and division, and I will work alongside them to create the world we know is possible. A world where hate does not thrive in silence.

To those who share this pain today, I see you. I stand with you. Together, we will rise, and we will continue to fight the good fight. Let this be a reminder: change is hard, but it is possible. And we are the ones who will make it happen. One act of courage, one moment of compassion, one unyielding stance against hate at a time.

Let’s keep going. Together.
