Standard Spotlight: ANSI/CAN/UL 330:2021
The Ninth Edition of ANSI/CAN/UL 330, Standard for Hose and Hose Assemblies for Dispensing Flammable and Combustible Liquids, was developed to supersede the previous edition of ANSI/UL 330 (American National Standard) and incorporate content from CAN/ULC-S612 (National Standard of Canada) to create a single joint national standard for Canada and the USA. CAN/ULC-S612 is referenced in the National Fire Code of Canada 2015.
The new edition of this Standard was formally approved by the UL Standards Technical Panel (STP) on Hose and Hose Assemblies for Dispensing Flammable Liquids, STP 330.
This Standard sets forth minimum requirements for hose and hose assemblies, including vapour recovery hose and assemblies, for use on dispensing devices for flammable and combustible liquids. A hose assembly consists of flexible hose and fittings suitable for attachment to flammable and combustible liquid dispensing equipment. These requirements also cover fuel hose assemblies designated as "low permeation", intended for use on dispensing devices for flammable and combustible liquids.
These requirements do not cover hose or hose assemblies intended for use in automotive vehicles or in confined areas, except for locations inside the housings of dispensing devices complying with the Standard for Power-Operated Dispensing Devices for Petroleum Products, UL 87. This Standard does not cover hose or hose assemblies for aircraft refueling service.
This bi-national edition of UL 330 offers manufacturers in both the US and Canada a single path of testing and certification, which will reduce barriers to trade, increase market access, and removes any conflicting provisions regarding these types of Hose and Hose Assemblies between the two countries. Through harmonization, the regulations in both Canada and the USA will be complementary and confusion over differing national requirements will be reduced or eliminated as a result of this work.
