The objective of this SOP is to ensure the regular check and maintenance of road and traffic safety equipment at large public places to ensure the safety of the public and prevent accidents.
The following equipment must be checked regularly:
- Traffic lights
- Road signs and markings
- Pedestrian crossings
- Speed humps
- Guardrails
- Barriers and bollards
- CCTV cameras
- Warning signs and cones
The equipment mentioned above must be checked as per the following timeline:
- Traffic lights: Daily, before peak hours and periodic checks (once in 6 months) for full functional tests and lamp replacements.
- Road signs and markings: Once a month for periodic checks, and repainting and touch up work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- Pedestrian crossings: Once a month for periodic checks, and repainting and touch up work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- Speed humps: Once a month for periodic checks, and repainting and touch up work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- Guardrails: Once a month for periodic checks, and repair and replacement work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- Barriers and bollards: Once a month for periodic checks, and repair and replacement work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- CCTV cameras: Once a month for periodic checks, and repair and replacement work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- Warning signs and cones: Once a month for periodic checks, and repair and replacement work should be done every 6 months or whenever required.
- The equipment must be inspected visually to identify any damage or wear and tear.
- The equipment must be tested to ensure that it is working correctly.
- Any defects found must be repaired or replaced immediately.
- The equipment must be cleaned and maintained regularly to ensure that it is in good condition.
The following human resources are required to execute this SOP:
- A team of at least three people should be responsible for checking and maintaining the equipment.
- The team should have experience in checking and maintaining road and traffic safety equipment.
- At least one member of the team should have a technical qualification in the maintenance of road and traffic safety equipment.
- A record must be kept of all checks and maintenance carried out on the equipment.
- Any defects found and the actions taken to repair or replace the equipment must be recorded.
- The record must be kept for a minimum of three years.
- Regular check and maintenance of road and traffic safety equipment will ensure that the equipment is in good condition and working properly, reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall safety for the public.
- It can also help in identifying any potential safety hazards and take preventive measures to avoid accidents.
- Regular maintenance can extend the life of the equipment, reducing the need for expensive repairs or replacements in the future.
