A standard method statement for the installation of EPDM rubber flooring

It has been two years since GPCP Construction successfully handed over the EPDM rubber floor to the prominent general contractor Ricons at The River Thu Thiem, developed by the joint venture of REFICO and CII.

This article is a part of our method statement for installing EPDM rubber flooring for this specific residential project, and each project has its own method statement.

Site preparation.

The concrete surface used for the EPDM installation must be clean and free from dust, oil, and particles. All inhibited substances must be completely removed, such as dirt, cement, oil, hardeners, loose components, paint, etc.

The EPDM flooring construction area must have an effective drainage system.

Drainage Rule: Water permeates EPDM flooring, reaches the concrete layer, and then starts draining into grates, funnels, etc.

Safety first.

Stretch safety warning wires and stick information boards at construction areas.

Installation instructions.

• Step 1: Apply the binder to the concrete layer in order to adhere the EPDM flooring to the concrete layer later.

• Step 2: Install the SBR rubber layer first, 20 mm in thickness (the mixing ratio of SBR granules to binder is 8:1).

• Step 3: Draw patterns on the dry SBR surface (the SBR layer will be dry after 12 hours or longer).

• Step 4: Install the EPDM rubber layer, 10 mm in thickness (the mixing ratio of EPDM granules to binder is 6:1). Install EPDM layers separately, respectively. After roughly 6 hours, a color layer will be dry, and then it needs cutting edges before continuing with other layer installations.

Protection after installation.

Ensure the construction area is strictly protected from heavy rain and irrelevant people after completion, within 3 hours at least.

With perfect cooperation between in-charge people, the safety floor can last over 10 years with little maintenance.
