Stand Up Every 30 Minutes

A review of four years of data concerning nearly 8,000 middle-aged and older adults indicates that prolonged sitting increases the risk of early death, even if one regularly exercises. On the other hand, participants who generally never sat for longer than 30 minutes at a time appeared to have a reduced risk for premature mortality. Though the study cannot prove a direct relationship between sitting and early death, the researchers recommend standing up from your desk and walking around for a few minutes every half hour. Annals of Internal Medicine, September 2017
