Stand Up and Be Counted Like Eddie Izzard

Stand Up and Be Counted Like Eddie Izzard

In 2012 I sat in the Wembley Arena alongside thousands of other fellow Gamesmakers listening to Eddie Izzard explain one of his primary motivations for running back to back marathons across the UK.  He told us he knew he would have to look after himself as he got older, and he knew to do that he needed to keep himself fit.  He called upon myself and my fellow Gamesmakers to go out and show a nation what we were doing to keep ourselves fit.  He urged us to go and inspire a nation, and I believe we came together to show the world what our wonderful country was and is capable of.

Earlier this year I sat and watched alongside millions of fellow viewers across the UK, in wonder, as once more he demonstrated the courage of his convictions and he literally ran his socks off across South Africa.

At lunchtime today, I heard him speak on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine show about why he was firmly on the side of the Remain Campaign.  Thank you Eddie for speaking about the fact that Humanity should be what we are fighting for.  There has been much talk about the Sovereignty arguments and the Economic arguments but rarely is anything said about the Humanity argument.

There can be no argument that certain aspects of how the EU operates should not be reformed.  Personally, just as I am trying to run my own personal marathon and regain the fitness of my youth, I will be joining Eddie on the 23rd June and voting to remain; not because I do not believe in my country but because I believe in the importance of a unified EU t0 promote peace and humanity, surely this is a great legacy to leave to the next generation.  We all need to walk together on the same planet.

Thank you Eddie, again.
