Stand Tall
There comes a time when you have to make a stand. This woman made a stand. She is in Iran. She removed her hijab. She raised her hand in triumph. She was arrested. Her children were punished. She was tortured. Yet she stood tall.
She was released because so many Iranians demanded her release.
Honor her. Stand tall with her. The stand she made is not aganst a political or religious power. it is for the simple right to be free.
We in the West have so much. We have no idea what we have. We whine and whinge and complain about straws and knees and faces. We have so much for which to be thankful. We don't even know what it is like to be unfree. We have no idea what it means to be told what to wear. In Iran the phrase is ' A woman should never be seen by a man; a man should never see a woman. What can that mean? Ask yourself, how you would respond?
As a woman, ask yourself, how would I dress? What would I do? How would I hide from other men?
If this is absurd, then you begin to understand.
If this is an insult, then you begin to understand.
If this is criminal, then you Must stand for these women.
Forget the pink hats on Broadway. Forget your opinion of our leadership. Think how you can help these women.
To simply declare themselves.
To simply state their right to dress as they choise.
To simply be who they are without restraint.
Ask yourselves these questions...
