Stand Out at Your Next Virtual Career Fair (and Join Us April 10!)

OK … before we get to what makes you stand out, let’s cover what makes a MOAA Virtual Career Fair and Hiring Event stand out:

  • Military-friendly, veteran-ready, MOAA-vetted employers who understand and appreciate the talent pool represented by those who serve and have served, and their families.
  • A video platform that allows for 1-on-1 chats with recruiters and other talent acquisition professionals. Employers can interview attendees on the spot!
  • It’s free to all members of the uniformed services community – servicemembers past and present (regardless of rank or branch), as well as their spouses.

Join us April 10 and meet with participating employers from the private sector like Instant Teams, Leidos, Panasonic, and Synchrony … or check out public sector opportunities with the U.S. Department of Labor, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and U.S. Postal Service, among others. The event will feature remote and telework opportunities, but there’s no shortage of in-person positions.

A special thanks to Delta Dental, whose generous donation to The MOAA Foundation supports this event and others benefitting those who serve, their families, and their survivors.

Now, about landing that job …

5 Quick Tips to Excel at a Job Fair

If you’re joining us April 10, or you’re looking ahead to future online opportunities, start with the basics:

  • Love Your LinkedIn: Is your profile current? Is your profile picture … well, picture-perfect? Have you tended to your network? Potential employers are heading to LinkedIn to find out more about you – don’t neglect this critical real estate. MOAA can help.
  • Put in the Work: Research companies before you log on – the more familiar you are with how they operate, the easier it will be to sell yourself as a productive addition to the team.
  • All About You: How is that elevator pitch moving along? When it comes to your next position, are you sure about your “why”? The more you know about the subject of your presentation – in this case, that’s you – the better.
  • Keep It Professional: Save the emojis and LOLs and OMGs for your text threads. And even if you’re at a military-friendly event, tone down the acronyms and jargon.
  • Be Thankful: Follow up with thank-you notes – it’s more than just being polite, it’s all about keeping the process in motion. A little gratitude goes a long way.

I assume that our children aren’t eligible to participate in these events.
