Stalk yourself.
Stalking is not a good thing. Not normally.
I had a friend named Rob that got stalked by an ex-girlfriend for about 4 months. She would follow him to places on the weekend.
She would sit outside his house and watch for hours. She had her friends connect with him on social media and start conversations.
It was unsettling.
BUT...
Are there things we can learn about that level of intense observation to help us be better at our own craft?
I believe we can learn a lesson this week to improve our effectiveness from 3 different types of stalkers.
Private investigator
Typically people hire an investigator to find out "what's wrong?" There is a cheating spouse, or a dishonest business partner, or a someone that is hiding something.
That means that the investigator needs to observe and document what is happening. They need to write things down, take photos, record audio.
Then they will come back to you and share all the stuff they have found.
So how does this translate to you stalking yourself?
It should be in your weekly plan to:
Observe Intently
You should write out exactly what you want to do this week, then at the end of the week observe your own actions.
Could you prove in a court of law that you do the things you tell others about yourself?
I may tell people I am a business coach for living. But did I coach any business owners? I may claim to have a weekly newsletter, but did I write an issue last week?
Observe your own actions and see if you live up to them regularly.
Ex partner
The reason you might want to take notes from an obsessed ex is because they are focused. They are not interested in what other people think about how they spend their time.
The only interest they have is KNOWING what is going on.
They find multiple ways to get what they want. They will follow people home. They will social stalk. They will enlist the help of others. They take every angle possible. They have:
Singular focus
Many business leaders get caught up in distraction. Not because they are dumb or don't have a plan. It's often because they are involved in WAY too much.
Not the stalking ex-lover. They spend as much time as possible on just one outcome.

We can take that approach.
Narrow your gaze to a specific outcome this month. Delegate the stuff you are not good at, and push off the things you don't need to do this week.
Stalk singular results!
White Bengal Tiger
Speaking of good stalkers, meet the white bengal tiger.
They are at a disadvantage compared to their much more common orange and black brethren. The typical tiger sits low in the brush and blends in naturally with their natural coloring. Not the white bengal tiger.
They must find ways to approach unexpectedly. Like hunting near dusk. They must act MORE quickly. They must always be ready to:
Take action
It's no secret that taking action is a great way to stay in business. But when combined with intently oberserving your own behavior, and being single minded, taking action starts to feel like a super power.

A client of mine made these changes last year. Here is what happened:
They manage a chain of brick and mortar gyms.
The pandemic caused them to lose nearly 40% of in person business when the locations opened back up.
So they revisted the goals they had originally, when opening the gyms:
"Help people make healthy choices with their bodies."
So they observed (for 6 weeks) how people wanted to do workouts in the post pandemic. Observe intently
They reduced their offerings to 2 versions (from 8 versions) of the preferred workout style. Singular focus
They changed their website, ad copy and signage to reflect the newly observed focus point. Take action
RESULTS: 60% increase in number of clients, and 23% in profitability per customer. The got back all their loss + more and made more money per new client.
Not to mention they haven't had to buy more space to accommodate the new clients. (Becuase it's an online/in-person hybrid option now!)
SO how can you use the 3 steps above this week?
Tell me your thoughts in the comment below!
