Creating engagement, like any relationship, is a two way street. As such, there are stakeholder and engager barriers.
Here are some Common engager barriers. But, what about stakeholder barriers, like doctors and other sick care professionals?
- Burnout
- Implicit bias
- Emotional factors driving technology adoption errors
- Lack of trust or suspicion of engager motives
- The high opportunity costs of engagement
- Fear of getting into a misplaced relationship and getting hurt
- Regulations and rules that interfere with collaboration
- The feeling that they are not being heard
- Anger or working in a hostile environment with a halo effect
10. Misalignment of values
Stakeholder engagement requires a fertile field. You must identify the barriers to engagement for specific stakeholders and address them. Without doing so, you can plant all the seeds you want, but few will grow.
