A stake in every game - A profile of Dr. Nina Vellani

What level of experience is required to turn a dying metal fabrication company into a profitable venture??For Nina Vellani Ph.D , who only had research experience prior to taking up this role, the answer is multi-pronged; as it should be.

Dr. Vellani has had her fair share of hardships throughout her academic and professional career. She wanted to pursue veterinary sciences initially, but ventured into immunology and virology wherein she worked extensively with the Herpes and the HIV virus cultures, gaining immense lab experience while doing so. Facing multiple health scares, she then took upon the mantle of a dying precision metal parts company, turned it profitable, all the while having no experience in the field whatsoever.

Having gained valuable experience in both scientific research and running a business, Dr. Vellani then turned towards consulting and funding biotech businesses, something which was very uncommon at the time. From there on, she has founded numerous Venture Capital firms, funding various businesses from the famous “valley of death”, and has actively helped her fellow female businesswomen scale greater heights in the health-tech and bio-tech VC world.

Throughout her career, Dr. Vellani has advocated for gender equality and more female representation in businesses across the spectrum. For Geoffrey Ching , and for us, it was an immensely enlightening conversation to have. You can check out the entire episode here -?https://plnk.to/howitsmed/e/1000581834207

An interview of my personal journey. Immense gratitude to my friend and colleague Dr Geoffrey Ching for this podcast interview. Truly enjoyed talking about my early years - how after my scientific career, I got into business. Luckily I was given the opportunity to amalgamate both into what I have become today - an investor in Life-Science companies. Am Grateful to all those who supported me in my journey.
