Staging a Historic Home for Zombie House Flipping (S2 E10)

The home featured in Zombie House Flipping season two episode ten is among the oldest homes the Zombie team has ever tackled. Built in 1925 and located in Delaney Park, this two-story zombie gave the team some serious worry at first.

After they checked out the property up close, the team saw even more ugly warts on their zombie. Even though the home was situated directly on Lake Copeland, an ancient travertine flooring pattern, mismatched master suite, and outdated windows made the $417,000 asking price a risky proposition for the Zombie team.

About the Zombie House

Season two episode ten was filled with near-disasters. Shortly after the demo began, the team discovered water coming through the ceiling throughout the home. They definitely needed a new roof. Then, Duke learned that the home was part of the Lake Copeland Historic District, which meant that the Orlando Historic Preservation Board had a significant say in the renovation process. Updating the home wouldn’t be easy. Thankfully, the team found the local restoration experts at Austin Historical. Scott and his crew updated the home’s century-old windows while staying within the stringent requirements of the Historic Preservation Board. In the end, they created a beautiful vintage canvas for our team to stage.

Staging the Home

The MHM Professional Staging team enjoyed the challenge of staging this massive, 100-year-old zombie. We had to find just the right pieces to compliment the freshly renovated historic elements of the home. We also wanted to make sure to draw attention to the distinct architectural features. 

In the Living Room

Bright, charming, and cozy are just a few ways to describe this living room. The MHM team chose neutral fabric couches and a stunning wooden coffee table to add to the elegant look of the home. The light colors allowed the newly renovated windows to fill the room with light. There’s nothing better than natural light to brighten a home. 

In the Kitchen

The Zombie team’s high-end choices for the granite counters and stone backsplash meant our staging team only needed a few key touches. The idea was to make the home look lived in and allow the buyer to envision cooking in the magnificent kitchen. A pop of green and a simple tray with cooking oils and other culinary accouterments were the perfect way to charm potential buyers. 

In the Dinette

Surrounded by the refurbished windows and a glass back door, the dinette was a small but bright space. The MHM team chose a circular glass table that shows off the functionality of the space as an eat-in kitchen. The clear glass tabletop allows the light to continue to flow through the room.

In the Formal Dining Room

The formal dining room was an elegant space that called for a formal dining set. The table and chairs we chose fit right into the style of the home. Minimal table accessories allowed the focus to remain on the room itself and that gorgeous wainscoting.

In the Sunroom

Perhaps the brightest area of the house, the sunroom has large windows across the entire back wall. In this room, we hung an abstract piece of art in neutral tones to balance out the stunning wall of windows on the opposite wall. The Founder and CEO of MHM Professional Staging, Megan Morris, is an artist herself and always picks out just the right piece of art. 

Master Bedroom

With newly refurbished windows and coffered ceiling, the master bedroom was an absolute triumph. The MHM staging team chose a light grey platform bed and rustic nightstands to continue the duality of old and new. Artwork and accessories in soothing earth tones make this master bedroom the perfect place for a weekend nap. 

Master Bathroom

A clean, bright oasis; the master bathroom leaves little for any buyer to desire. MHM made sure the master bathroom was also seen as practical and not just for show by highlighting the counter space with clean white soap dispensers and beautiful votive holders. A fresh cotton towel draped over the clawfoot tub invites buyers to imagine soaking luxuriously in this masterfully renovated bathroom.
