The stages of ABE Business Management Programmes

Business Management degrees train students for managerial roles in many different industries. Recruiters prefer candidates who have a degree in Business Management as opposed to those who don’t. ABE Business Management programmes are internationally recognized with learners earning a Diploma at the end of each stage. Students who have successfully completed the ABE programme may complete the final year of a BA (Hons) Business Administration. This article focuses on the three stages of the Business Management degree including the ABE Level 4 Foundation Diploma and the Level 5 Diploma and the final year of the BA (Hons) Business Administration. The entry requirements, structure and subjects covered in each of these stages are different. Read on to know more about them.

Entry requirements for each stage

The Level 4 Diploma is equivalent to the first year of a BA Business Management degree. There is no formal prerequisite for entry into Level 4 of the ABE Business Management programme. Students who have completed the ABE Level 4 Diploma may progress to the Level 5 Diploma. Alternatively, for entry into Level 5, the candidate should satisfy at least one of the following: mature candidates or persons with two or more ‘A’ Level passes or at least 2 years of work experience or any other qualification that ABE deems equivalent to the above. Holders of the ABE Level 4 Diploma and ABE Level 5 Diploma may enroll in the final year of the BA (Hons) Business Administration with the University of Hertfordshire.

Structure of each stage

The syllabus is structured differently in all the stages of ABE Business Management programme. Level 4 Foundation Diploma consists of 4 units, and students are required to mandatorily complete all the 4 units in order to be awarded the Level 4 Foundation Diploma. However, they do not need to wait for the results of Level 4 in order to start studying Level 5 units. Level 5 comprises 6 units out of which 4 are core units and 2 are elective units in both cases. All 6 units must be fully completed in order to be awarded the Level 5 Diploma. The final year of the BA Business Management degree is facilitated by the University of Hertfordshire and it consists of 8 units done over 3 semesters. Students who have completed all 8 units will graduate with a BA (Hons) Business Management while students who have completed at least 5 units in the final year, may graduate with a BA Business Management.

Subjects covered in the stages

Different subjects are covered in the different stages of an Business Management Degree . The four units in Level 4 include Dynamic Business Environments, Finance for Managers, Enterprising Organizations, and Employability and Self-Development. The core subjects in Level 5 Diploma include Managing Agile Organisations and People, Innovation and Business Performance, International Business Economics and Markets, and Effective Financial Management. Students can choose 2 electives from Operations Management, Managing Stakeholder Relationships, and Analytical Decision-Making. The final year of the BA Business Management degree includes the following 8 mandatory units – Business Strategy; Business and Commercial Awareness; Global Marketing, Ethics and Culture; International Human Resource Management; Leadership and Organisations; Issues in the Global Economy; Digital Economy and Contemporary Issues in Business and Management.
