Stachybotrys: The Toxic Indoor Mold-Take it Serious
I recently had the unfortunate task of alerting my clients that their fungal growth is actually stachybotrys or black mold! When the test results came in, I was surprised! I have done hundreds of mold test and this is the first time I have encountered this type of mold! I encourage anyone that suspect they have mold please get it tested. The picture above is of the basement bathroom that does not have a bathroom exhaust fan or operable window so the moisture that is produced has not way of venting out which leads to fungal growth/mold!
This home had the perfect conditions for the mold to become active and thrive! Above is a picture of the utility room below the the main level bathroom. There is active leak from a loose toilet and moisture damaged wood!
Here is the exterior view of the cantilevered joist that connects to the deck. The cantilevered joists are moisture damaged, the insulation is wet and loose. So imagine the combination of the humidity and the cooling effecting (more moisture) at this area when the HVAC unit is operating in the cooling mode. Also, this causes a break in the building envelope!
I can not explain how serious of a health issue this is! These situations are never caused by a singular problem or solution, but a combination of factors that needs to be identified and corrected.
