Why demand flexibility??
Imagine the year 2050, a Tuesday evening at 6 pm. You've just returned home, eager to unwind with your favourite TV series and a delicious home-cooked dinner. However, there's a hitch: there's not enough electricity.?
Promisingly, projections expect that by 2050, nearly 90% of electricity generation will come from renewable sources like wind and solar. Yet, increased reliance on renewables introduces volatility and unpredictability into our energy supply.
The tech-centred solution involves hefty investments in additional infrastructure, such as massive batteries and expanded cable networks. These solutions come with a high price tag and the potential to drive up electricity costs. A less pricey solution? Embracing flexible consumers who can adjust their electricity usage throughout the day, aligning with the grid's capacity.
Why behavioural insights??
While technical solutions and financial incentives have long been associated with demand flexibility and might seem like the evident answer, the missing puzzle piece actually lies in understanding human behaviour. Read our latest blog to find out what behaviours homeowners can adopt to unlock the full potential of demand flexibility.?
