Snapchat launches new features to celebrate the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022
Snap Inc. has announced a range of new features to help fans engage with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 World Cup, including team-based AR filters, new AR Try-On features, and live update overlays to keep fans informed of the latest scores. The Live Garment Transfer technology allows users to virtually wear the jerseys of six national teams competing in this year’s tournament, which starts this Sunday. In partnership with teams from the U.S., France, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, and Qatar, Snapchat users can overlay a 3D version of those teams’ jerseys on themselves in real-time video within seconds.
Apple to launch ‘MLS Season Pass’ subscription on February 1
苹果 has announced its upcoming subscription service for Major League Soccer (MLS) fans - “MLS Season Pass” - will launch on February 1, 2023. Subscribers in 100+ countries and regions can access the Pass on the Apple TV app for $14.99 per month during the season or $99 for season-long access. Apple TV+ subscribers that sign up for MLS Season Pass only have to pay $12.99 per month or $79 per season. The company claims that the new subscription service will bring the league to its “biggest worldwide audience ever.”
Nike unveils ‘Dot Swoosh’ platform to house Web3 projects
Sportswear giant 耐克 is launching .Swoosh, a Web3-enabled platform that will allow people to design and own virtual creations. The platform will be a place for people to buy, show off and trade ‘phygital’ and virtual products; unlock access to events and products; and co-create products. Nike added that, in some instances, community members will be able to unlock access to physical product, or events like conversations with athletes or designers.?
SunGod smashes latest crowdfunding campaign
British performance eyewear brand SunGod launched an equity crowdfund on Crowdcube earlier this week, surpassing its £1m fundraising goal to achieve a total of £3m. SunGod, winners of the Equipment or Wearable of The Year category at The 2021 Sport Technology Awards, closed the raise in just 79 minutes, a 200% overfund, with 1,365 new investors participating in the funding round. Earlier this year, The STA Group was pleased to play a key role in securing one of SunGod’s most successful partnerships to date with the Great Britain SailGP Team.
Women’s football kit could be causing injury, new report finds
A new research paper by sports scientists from St Mary’s University has found that most football kits are not suited to women’s bodies, potentially causing a high risk of injury. Writing in the journal Sports Engineering, the experts believe knee-ligament injuries are the biggest cause for concern due to this trend. They cite the fact that no large boot manufacturers are willing to invest in a new design better suited to women. The researchers highlighted the need for more kit and technology better tailored to both women’s needs and body shape.
