Shaping the built environment through team-driven design to transform the broader community.
The Church of St. Patrick in Farmington, CT celebrated 100 years from the original dedication on June 11, 1922 of the arts and crafts style church. On the 100 year anniversary the parish blessed the newest building addition. The knitting together of the old historic stone church and the adjacent historic parish house with the new addition has made both buildings accessible while being respectful to the historic integrity.?
This project was both a challenge and motivator for exceptional design by Northeast Collaborative Architects .??
The addition created a two story corridor linking different floor levels of the existing parish house and church tucked under the historic slate roof.? The addition to the front of the corridor link includes a new accessible entry, elevator, and a large one and a half story parish hall and kitchen. The Celtic cross is integrated within the paving stone pattern to the new main entrance that connects to the new parking lot accommodating all parking on site.? The new landscaped site unifies the building, parking, and exterior social space. Along the Main Street sidewalk a sitting area and small garden welcome neighbors to sit and rest.?
These renovations took the existing 9,317 sqft. building and added a two story 6,440 sqft addition.? The church’s sanctuary was reworked adding a seating area to the nave, handicap accessible seating, and a crying room. It also allowed for respacing of the existing pews to allow kneeling during worship.? The lower level which presently houses the parish hall were renovated into classrooms for the thriving Christian Education program.? The addition created a connection to the historic church structure and the old rectory which houses the parish offices. A new parish hall holds seating for 192 for dinners, education events, and a new kitchen.? There is also a? new devotional area, baptistery, and new lavatories.
