GD Mission Systems Employee Awarded SSP FBM Lifetime Achievement Award

Annemarie F.?was awarded the Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Lifetime Achievement Award on May 22, 2024, in recognition of her 39-year career and her significant and ongoing contributions to the FBM?program?and the customer.

The FBM Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes SSP’s industry partners who demonstrate an unparalleled degree of professionalism and excellence. She is the first female GD Mission Systems engineer to be honored with this prestigious award after her nomination by?Mike Beltrani, vice president, Strategic Mission Systems.

“Annemarie has made tangible contributions to the field of systems engineering, and her impact on the mission is undeniable,” he said. “The 2024 SSP Director’s Awards ceremony was very special, and this award is well deserved.”

Dedication to the Mission

Annemarie has spent most of her General Dynamics career working on Fire Control Systems (FCS) for our U.S. Navy customer in the Strategic Programs Fire Control and Guidance Branch (SP23). This award recognized her exceptional contributions to numerous projects, primarily related to FCS for the Navy’s ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs). FCS are a critical component on military vessels that control the arming and launching of weapons.

“I’ve always felt there was a special relationship between General Electric, which later became General Dynamics, and our customer (SP23) and our other industry partners,” Annemarie said. “We all work together and have each other’s backs; it’s been a really great environment to build my career.”

Advice for a New Generation of Leaders

Annemarie has been a mentor throughout her career at General Dynamics but offered some advice to new employees, “Be open to all opportunities, even when it’s uncomfortable, and seek help from your colleagues because they are willing to help you; they have been in your shoes.”

“Secondly, stay on a project long enough to really become an expert,” she added. “We need a new generation of experienced and longstanding project members to maintain a strong foundation of subject matter experts at GD Mission Systems.”
