SSE Thermal sites achieve international Asset Management standard
SSE Thermal’s commitment to the highest of standards has been underlined – with a trio of our sites achieving ISO 55001 certification.
Our operational sites are the beating heart of our business, playing a vital role in keeping the lights on across the UK and Ireland. Now, three of those sites are celebrating after receiving the certification which recognises best practice in Asset Management.
Our power station at Peterhead and our two Gas Storage sites in the Humber have received the certification from the BSI. In addition to existing operations, both locations are essential to our low-carbon vision with progress being made on our carbon capture and hydrogen projects.
Work is now underway to secure the certification for our other sites across the UK and Ireland, all of which already hold ISO 45001 (health and safety) and ISO 14001 (environment) certification, underlining the integrated management system in place within SSE Thermal.
The Asset Management certification highlights the expertise of our people as well as the systems and processes we have in place to manage our assets – all of which are crucial as we endeavour to keep the lights on while working towards our net zero targets.

These awards are recognition of work we have done to ensure our sites are managed to a globally-recognised standard and are testament to our brilliant teams.
Mark Hayward, Director of Operations, said: “This will not only benefit our existing sites, which play a hugely important role in the energy system of today, it will also guide us as we bring forward innovative new carbon capture and hydrogen projects which will power the net zero transition.”
Audit preparations have been ongoing in recent months with site teams and supported by our newly developed digital Asset Management platform. During the audit, we were able to clearly signpost how our business-as-usual activity matched the expectations laid out in the standard while demonstrating how our activities support the delivery of our strategic objectives.
Kubeshnee Chetty, Head of Asset Management, said: “The first Phase of ISO certification has had a fantastic outcome. It’s really great to see the line of sight and alignment of the Thermal strategy and asset management objectives fully embraced by everyone working together to ensure we deliver value within SSE Thermal.”
