The holiday season is here, it’s time to unwind and enjoy the fruits of your hard work over the past 12 months. For most, it’s an opportunity to throw the “out of office” on, put the laptop away and spend time with family and friends drinking eggnog and going carol signing. Well maybe not the last two but it sounded really festive so thought I’d put them in.
Over the past 12 months, I have worked with many people on helping build their LinkedIn profile and to increase their SSI scores in my LinkedIn workshops, both in person and online. After all the hard work getting your score to were you would like it to be, some have expressed to me that they are worried it may all go south over the Christmas period a bit like the belly after 4 bowls of trifle.
I know some of the people who I help have the SSI score as a sales Caveat while others just have an SSI rivalry with a colleague but whatever the reason I am here to help you out. The good news is there is a few simple steps you can do to keep your SSI up over the holiday period without it needing to impact too much on the fun times. Also below, here are some of my tips to getting your profile ready for the New Year.
Download the LinkedIn and Navigator App
For many this will already be something you have done long ago, but there are a lot of people still who use LinkedIn and Sales Navigator solely on their laptops. Putting the laptop away is an amazing feeling over the Christmas particularly if you are like me and spend so many hours on it throughout the year. Logging in over the Christmas to update your status or to interact with content is something that probably will not happen. However if you have the App on your phone a few minutes can be spent on LinkedIn here or there. What better way to multi-task while you que behind 120 People in Pennies on Christmas Eve.
Social Media Management Tools
Just like you will do the prep on Christmas Eve for the dinner on Christmas Day you can also prep ahead of time for your posts to appear over the course of the holiday season without even needing to be logged in. By downloading Apps such as Hootsuite for instance, you can prepare posts to be published at a future time. If you put aside an hour before you finish up for the break you can have posts scheduled right up until you return.
Update your Summary
Updating your summary is something that most do not do often enough. You do it when you set up your profile and forget about it. Your summary is one of the parts of your profile that the majority of others will look at however. If you can get someone’s attention in the first three lines people will continue to read on so make it interesting. Chances are what you wrote in it 12 months ago or when you first got a profile has now changed. As you evolve as a businessperson so should your summary evolve with you. Over the holidays, take some time to update your summary, not only will this be good for your SSI, it will also take your profile up a level. Don’t forget to talk about the future not just what you have done but what you plan on doing also.
Like Share Comment
Even 5 minutes per day popping on LinkedIn you can get a lot done in terms of liking, sharing and commenting on your connections content. If you have already utilized my tip above for using social media management tools you will not even need to worry about posting yourself so spend a few minutes each day interacting with content that you like.
Endorsements and Recommendations
Over the past year, you will have worked with people who have helped you out. What better way to thank them then endorsing their relevant skills and to go one-step further and give them a recommendation on their profile. Likewise, you more than likely have helped others out throughout the year so drop those who you have helped a Recommendation request. This will give your SSI a boost as well as being a great way to show others the value you have brought to those you work with over the past year.

5 年Nice article! I’m not familiar with the navigator sales app. Will check it out!
Speak Truth to Power
5 年The only time I think of my SSI score is when someone mentions it. This is another way to feel inadequate. According to LinkedIn I don't "Engage with insights". That's all I do. A higher score won't cause a woman to love me back, change the fact that work has been more challenging on a position where no one uses this site or reunite Talking Heads. Sorry- that is a request fr the other David Byrne. He seems engaged as he still tours.

5 年Great suggestions. Constantly refreshing and updating your profile is critical to maintaining a good SSI score, as is liking, sharing, and commenting on content posted by your connections, using social media management tools, updating your summary, and getting endorsements and recommendations. Just a few minutes a day can help dramatically improve your score.
