Squat for spinal decompression

Squat for spinal decompression

Our spines get very compressed during the day, as relatively few of our daily movements actually move our spines out of an upright position. Squatting pulls the vertebrae and discs apart, creating pressure changes and thus stimulating metabolism. Essentially, this is a quick way to decompress!

Start by standing with your feet parallel and big toes together, hold onto your desk or chair and drop your bottom to the floor.

Part your knees wide and let your head drop between them. Suck your tummy in like a greyhound and bounce towards the floor for 30 seconds. Come back up to standing by pushing through your thighs. Repeat x 2.

This exercise is taken from the second of my Deskercise sessions. This session was designed to improve joint metabolism for the whole body. Joints are healthier when they move regularly - movement promotes the flow of nutrients into the joint, and waste products out.
