When we were children there was assumption that our parents knew what they were doing, and were there to protect us. As we grew into young adults we started to see?imperfections?and a similar realisation?likely formed about our teachers, leaders and future employers.

We were faced with the realisation that those we relied on to be the masters of what they do, were fundamentally too often winging it.

Our leaders make mistakes!?

And, there is rarely a time not worthy of being frustrated by these mistakes. From how we treat each other, the businesses we work for, the service we receive and how leaders are letting us down.?With this, ensuring people have a voice, speak up and are heard is critical.?

I love the cynical side of research.??To look at a category or area of government and think "wow, there are wrongs that could be made right." To listen to the people, who call a spade and spade, and a failing as one that should be highlighted, rather than everything is just fine. Business and government, from start-ups to 100+ year old icons missing fundamentals, but somehow surviving and even prospering. It takes a brave leader to be open to hearing the?truth.

Perhaps that's the point of life, of business and government, to not expect perfect, comfort and control, but to ever seek improvement.

In many ways perfection is impossible, but stagnation is scary, and being closed to constructive criticism is stupid.

When I think about some of the sectors we work in, such as education, it is satisfying to see how much progress is being made, even if there is still a long way to go to reach?perfection. Or consumer products making assumptions about their shoppers that totally miss the reality of today, even so, ever making iterations along the way.

It is frightening the number of leaders getting what they do?wrong, but pleasing that some are open to friction. Heading towards improvement, that may not ever reach perfection, but progress is made.

Today, we have two pieces from the wonderful Mahalia! One about how TikTok is tracking users who watch LGBTQ+ content and another about how Square Holes client Jones Radiology took our research to drive progress.?There's so much wrong, but?what a wonderful world.
