Squamish sets sights on new FDI leads thanks to funding for communities

Squamish, British Colombia is known for its beautiful geography – located in the heart of the water, forests and mountain ranges that so many associate with Canada. The community offers more than just breathtaking views however, the District of Squamish’s desire to preserve and make its environment accessible to others has naturally created business opportunities as well.

“Our vision is to better the lives of our people and the environment around us,” says former District of Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott. “To realize this vision, we are working to build an inclusive economy, one that is focused on taking action to meet climate goals and is preserving our natural assets."

To support this vision, Squamish applied for CanExport Community Investments funding to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) opportunities for its key sectors of: green economy, outdoor recreation, and sustainable tourism and hospitality.

Invest Squamish leveraged funding to create a new website, featuring three new videos, to better introduce its community and highlight key sector opportunities. The result? Squamish generated nearly 50 inbound FDI leads. Visit Invest Squamish and check it out!

“CanExport Community Investments provides an important source of funding to link investment opportunities to our local business ecosystem. This funding helps our local businesses scale, become more efficient, and globally competitive,” says Kate Mulligan, Economic Development Officer for the District of Squamish.
