???? To all my SQE candidate followers.
As we approach the fast-approaching Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1), I want to take a moment to share some of my personal insights that might offer a boost to your preparations.
Over the years, I've come to realise that when it comes to exams, especially those as crucial as the SQE1, one seldom ever feels "fully prepared". We can pore over our notes, textbooks, and past exam papers and still feel that nagging sense of "what if?". This feeling is natural and it is okay. The challenge of the SQE1 lies not only in its breadth and depth, but also in its style; the fact that multiple plausible answers often stare back at you on the paper.
I have been in that seat. I've felt that mounting uncertainty and had my mind do endless somersaults as I tried to find the 'best' answer. But here's the secret: It's okay not to be sure all the time.
The SQE1, like our legal journey, isn't about knowing everything, it's about navigating complexities and uncertainties with a clear mind and unwavering resolve.
?? My top tip for tackling the exam, and indeed a skill that will prove valuable in your legal career, is to flag the questions you're unsure about, and move on swiftly. Don't allow uncertainty to break your flow, your momentum. Answer the questions you're most confident about first, then circle back to those you've flagged.

This strategy does two things:
1?? It ensures that you allocate sufficient time to answer the questions you are most likely to get correct.
2?? It allows your subconscious mind to work on the difficult questions while you move through the rest of the paper.
The SQE1 is not just a test of your legal knowledge, it's a test of your resilience, your adaptability, and your ability to maintain poise under pressure. Remember, this exam is just one step in your journey to becoming excellent lawyers.
As we march towards the SQE1, I want to remind each one of you - it's not about being ready for every possible scenario. It's about facing each question, each challenge, with a clear head and a confident heart.
Believe in yourself, your capabilities, your preparations. Trust in the journey you're embarking upon. And remember, each stumbling block is but a stepping stone to success. Good luck, future solicitors! We're all rooting for you. ??????

1 年Thanks for sharing. I’ve subscribed. In addition to your tip Barbri advised in one of their workshops to also jot down on the whiteboard the question number flagged along with your potential choices of between a-e, that way you don’t have to review all of the answers again when you go back to that question, that’s if you’ve been able to eliminate some already. This has really helped me during mocks so far.
Love this Colin, as a BARBRI SQE Prep learning coach, these are the tips we share with students. Hearing it from a fellow SQE participant is so important. Thank you for sharing.
