Spur Afrika: A Brief Insight

Spur Afrika, nestled in the heart of Kibera, Nairobi, stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment for the children living in the informal settlements. For over a decade, we have been working towards our mission: to Engage, Empower, and Educate the young minds of Kibera. Our vision is: to build a community that fosters individual potential for a sustainable future. Guided by the principle that potential can be discovered and nurtured through international relationships, Spur Afrika has successfully made significant strides in impacting past and present community members' lives.

The conception of the organization began as an idea by the founder Patrick or as everyone calls him ‘Pat’ and Sue. After garnering assistance from Rosalie Lui from Australia who believed in their dream, Spur Afrika has managed to significantly grow over the years.

The members of the staff are efficiently divided into different departments of the organization to ensure the execution of operations. Over the years, the organization has managed to diversify its portfolio in terms of the operations it undertakes, this gave rise to the following departments; Elimisha Program, Communications and Mentorship Department, and Special Programs.

Elimisha Department

Elimisha department shoulders the building blocks where the foundations of Spur Afrika were established, The Elimisha program entails the provision of sponsorship programs for their students. The Elimisha program aims at the provision of quality education to students in Kibera who show potential and desire to acquire education. With the help of donors and well-wishers, the organization has managed to sponsor children in Kibera for over a decade, journeying with children from primary school to campus. The Elimisha program has achieved several success stories, currently, we have 150 children receiving access to quality education, none of it would have been possible without your help.

Special Programs Department

Over the years of being active, the organization managed to diversify its operations extensively . During the years of operations, the organization realized that it could achieve more than just sponsoring students, there laid opportunities to impact the community further. Special programs saw the introduction of programs such as; Business As Missions (BAM) that helps entrepreneurs in Kibera establish and run their businesses, Read It Know It (RI-KI) and educational competition programs, Medical Camp, Oral Hygiene, Coding and Chess Classes.?

Communications and Mentorship Department

The Communications Department plays a crucial role in connecting all the departments in the organization. All the communication that takes place within the organization is facilitated by the communication department and is relayed to the administration table. The communication department assists in the generation of reports, written documents, and all information related to organizational operations. The mentorship program is an essential part of the organization as it ensures that all our sponsored children in Spur Afrika have mentors. We believe in local mentorship, and therefore we endeavor to pair each sponsored child with a local mentor. The aim is for the mentors to develop a relationship with their child, which will foster personal development and positive role modeling.

We offer training and support to all our mentors.

Leadership

The administration, headed by Pat and Sue, oversees all the activities of Spur Afrika. They are responsible for supervising the organization's operations.
