Sprucing up your LinkedIn, a mini-series with me as your guide

Part One
I love LinkedIn. I got on board very early and use it for my job on a daily basis. That said when I am busy and heads down it's easy for me to let the months, okay years go, without paying attention to the details. So if there ever was a time, Covid-lining here, to get myself back on track it's now.
Rather than tackling it all at once, I am going to unpack pieces of LinkedIn in micro bite-sized pieces.
First up: Your Picture, otherwise known as a head-shot. When I was in Executive Search (professional search) I wore a black sheath dress, perhaps matching blazer and pearls. It was perfect for that time. When I moved over to an in-house corporate role in the music industry I quickly deleted that photo and let my hair, removed the suit and pearls (I still have those btw). I am a fan of being yourself. If you are someone who loves to smile, then smile if not well be you.
Getting back to some simple basics is all it takes here: Wear something that makes you feel good. If a jacket makes you feel more confident/put together awesome - wear it. Minimal background is preferred. You can always use the horizontal background space that LinkedIn gives you for displays of your graphic design/coding/current company logo or your dog. Today's phones have wonderful cameras that do the job, truly! If your company offers it up then definitely take them up on that.
The trick is, Start Today. Not to be too pithy, but 'just do it'. A gazillion reasons to but one is that your brain that is on overdrive with the to-do list will feel a little bit lighter because you started. Well done!
