The Sprint to Your SUCCESS
I’ve heard a saying in times past, which went something like this: “If you can’t fly, run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl; if you can’t crawl, then roll” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.). In today’s time and era, you need to do all you can do to be the best at what you do. There’s no room for laziness, slothfulness, mediocrity or ignorance. The competition in every field demands everyone to learn more to earn more. Out of all those ill-advised characteristics listed above, the term ignorance could very well take on the meaning of one who simply don’t know or even someone who refuses to know, or learn. It’s incumbent that we all turn it up a notch, per se.
Let’s look at a runner getting ready to run the 100-meter race. Having ran before in college and high school, I know this sport all too well. I want to focus on the beginning of the race and the things each runner must do and participate in before they actually start the race. These factors are critical in areas far beyond the track or meet, but they are very much operational in business and in one’s personal life. The four segments I would like to dissect, which the referee standing at the start line says out loud, with a whistle in hand, are: 1) On Your Mark, 2) Get Ready, 3) Get Set and 4) Go. Those are they four signals the referee gives to every runner at the start line. Look at those commands and place them in your office or in your personal life to see the effect and impact. Let’s take a look at how they could make a difference in your life. The first command, “On Your Mark” puts you in the mind of going to a place where you are about to embark on a journey which will require all the training you’ve done to produce the greatest and best possible outcome. This lets us know that the time has come to perform and produce optimum results which will reflect the times where we prepared for this very moment. “On Your Mark” is a personal stance you must take to get into your own zone and see the victory. The next command, “Get Ready” lets you know that it is almost time to get into motion. What if you’re in the automobile industry and you are having a huge sale at your location and the start time of 9:00AM is drawing near. Of course, the adrenalin is running through your veins and has surrounded you, but you are excited beyond measure. You are in a place where you must now, “Get Ready.” The next command is to “Get Set!” At this place the runner has stretched, arrived at the place where they will take off from and now it’s time to get into a final position and to concentrate. In this phase, the runner is concentrating on the distance, the pace, the speed and the track itself. The runners must envision themselves not only completing the race, but finishing the race in 1st Place! Believe it or not, I believe that both Success and Failure are both accomplished at the Start Line. Yes, what runners believe about themselves or don’t believe about themselves are both true. Also, at this place or command, no runner is permitted to leave the starting point, flinch or move at all, or there will be a false start declared by the referee. In your private time, you should go through the sequence of getting on your mark, getting ready, getting set….and finally releasing or “GO!” The final command is to “GO!” At this place you are giving your all, while being in and staying focused on the prize before you. Don’t you dare turn to the left or to the right, but stay focused on the finish line and see the trophy awaiting your arrival.
At the end of the race you will have accomplished what you envisioned at the start line. This is the Sprint to Your SUCCESS article which will enable you to understand the different dynamics of not only running a race, but also running a business or improving one’s personal self, as it relates to goals and objectives. Winning is not a mistake, winning is Intentional. You are Success and I Am,
