Sprinkling Your Way to Clients

Often, in our Facebook group, there are questions and discussion on the topics of marketing and client acquisition.
As there should be! Clients are what make everything works.
When first starting out in business, many Virtual Assistants treat marketing as something that’s done periodically. I disagree. I think it should be done every day.
But, instead of calling it marketing or selling – which no one really wants to do – I make things easier by referring to my approach as “sprinkling.”
What I mean by “sprinkling” is spreading the word about your business – a little bit here and a little bit there, every single day.
Here are three examples of sprinkling:
- I’m at the plumbing store and need to special order something. When the owner asks me for my contact info I don’t just give him my address and phone number, I say here’s my card to make it easier for you. Nine times out of ten they ask me about my business; nearly every time they ask to keep my card. Also, when asked for my email address I always use [email protected] to put my business front and center.
- I speak for SCORE (click here to watch my latest webinar), various Chambers of Commerce and other organizations for free. This is a great platform for me to be the expert, share my knowledge and spread the word.
- I network on a regular basis by attending events and by inviting people to meet me for tea. I always ask them if I can subscribe them to my newsletter, so I can stay in touch with them on a regular basis.
There are many, many other examples of “sprinkling,” including sending handwritten notes, hosting an event, posting on social media or writing a newsletter. Find three that you enjoy and give them a try. I think you’ll be delighted with the results.
