Question writing for effective assessment

This interactive series of three workshops will provide you with a practical approach for designing effective assessments and items for a range of educational purposes. Each session builds on the learning from the last, with a chance to implement and reflect on the content during the weeks in between.?

By the end of the three sessions you will have:

?? Learned key principles for designing assessments and items and how these link to practical decision making

?? Developed strategies to improve each stage of assessment and item development

?? Explored methods for drafting and reviewing items, diagnosing issues and resolving them

??Used good principles of design to create effective mark schemes and justify them

Item banking in practice

This workshop will introduce item banking, a system for producing assessment material, and how it can be applied to your own contex

The Postgraduate Advanced Certificate in Educational Studies: Educational Assessment is a 15 month, part time qualification run in partnership by the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and Cambridge Assessment Network.

The course is designed for all professionals wishing to develop their understanding of educational assessment and its evaluation in their day-to-day working practice.

As a course participant you'll develop ?

• An in-depth understanding of key concepts and issues within the field of educational assessment.
• A critical and reflective approach to academic enquiry on issues of educational assessment.
• The ability to link collected data and theoretical perspectives in assessment in order to make new insights
• Understanding and skills related to research methods, including critical awareness of methodological issues, ethical principles and data collection methods
• The ability to evaluate the impact of research enquiry on their own professional context
• Skills in planning, organisation and academic writing.
