Spring Updates
In this edition, we highlight the updated Federal Highway Administration's High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) Guide, FAQ document, and a convenient Installation and Inspection Pocket Guide. These resources are key for agency and HFST industry professionals, covering everything from choosing a site to proper installation.
We're also highlighting important research on how HFST improves roadway safety. Plus, with our ongoing training and consulting services, we remain at the forefront of boosting road safety with HFST. Continue reading to learn more about our work and the significant effects of HFST on roadway safety.

High Friction Surface Treatments
With over 15 years of expertise with HFST, Transtec has led the way in enhancing roadway safety by improving pavement surfaces. Our journey began in 2008 when we collaborated with FHWA on more than two dozen HFST demonstration projects across 12 states as part of the Surface Enhancements at Horizontal Curves (SEAHC) and Every Day Counts (EDC) programs.
Throughout these initiatives, we've gained the knowledge and expertise to play a pivotal role in various aspects of HFST deployment, including assisting agencies in site selection and verification, overseeing HFST installation processes, conducting pre and post-installation friction and macrotexture testing, and monitoring both the functional and safety performance over the early life of the treatment.
These groundbreaking projects introduced numerous states to the efficacy of HFST as a life-saving safety countermeasure. Subsequently, many of these states have adopted HFST on a widespread scale, further reinforcing its importance in enhancing roadway safety nationwide.

The answer is C, Calcined Bauxite.
Calcined bauxite is used in high friction surface treatments due to its exceptional hardness, wear and polish resistance, and angular particle shape, which contribute to its excellent antiskid properties.
