Spring & Summer 2023 Highlights
Welcome! Explore?our activities on the web, in the ground, and on the web in the ground.
Confirmations of Our Work
We were thrilled to have our efforts validated by the findings of the recent study - "Mycorrhizal Mycelium as a Global Carbon Pool."?The admirable scientists behind this paper estimate that "global plant communities allocate 3.93 GtCO2eq per year to arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi" - the active ingredient in?Rootella. This means that global carbon flux to mycorrhizal mycelia comprises ~36% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions in 2021!?
These are the kinds of numbers and concepts that underpin the biological infrastructure for?Groundwork BioAg's global scaling. By applying Rootella across cropland worldwide, we are working to sequester massive amounts of carbon in our soils.
Mycorrhizal inoculants also earned some well-deserved regulatory accreditation?in the form of the Verra rule?VM 42 v2.?Thanks to the certification of this protocol, the use of Rootella mycorrhizal inoculants is?now considered a valid method of sequestering carbon in soil, and an accepted practice change for voluntary carbon credits.?This means that farmers who would otherwise have been ineligible for carbon credits - due to lack of additionality - can now unlock carbon credit income with?Rootella Carbon!
New Growth
Groundwork BioAg is excited to welcome?Guy Adler?to the team in the role of Global Products Manager. Guy brings extensive experience in agriculture product management and agtech, and an academic background in agriculture and economics. We look forward to working together to bring Rootella to farmers and scale mycorrhizal carbon sequestration around the globe. Welcome, Guy!
Groundwork BioAg on the Ground
The regenerative agriculture community in Israel is maturing!?CGO?Dan Grotsky?teamed up with other regenerative agriculture pioneers in Israel to help establish a common organization promoting?regenerative agriculture?at national, regional, and global levels.
Dan Grotsky shared his "lessons from the field"?at Innovation Journey South Africa - the?JDC,?Pears Program?and Israeli?Foreign Trade Administration's event about working in South Africa.
We were excited to welcome business and governmental delegations from Brazil, Mexico and India.?We enjoyed speaking to them about our work in sustainable crop nutrition and nature-based carbon sequestration!?
CEO?Yossi Kofman?took the stage at the?Ibex Investors?ClimateTech conference,?hosted by?Google for Startups Israel,?in collaboration with?PLANETech?and?Start-Up Nation Central.
Groundwork BioAg on the Ground
We are proud to be featured in?Start-Up Nation Central's Q1 2023?Israeli Tech Sector Reports!
These high-potential sector reports deliver a comprehensive overview of trends and developments in each sector. Groundwork BioAg has been featured in the Climate Tech report.?Take a look!
Groundwork in the Field
Our South African partner,?Agrivested, Ltd., visited the Ceres Valley where?Gerhard Lourens?is carrying out trials at the?De Keur Group?farm.
Seven months ago the apple trees on the right side of the frame were inoculated with Rootella and are currently thriving, with?40-50% growth increases. Follow?Agrivested?to stay updated on the progress of our trials!
Our first-of-its-kind?Rootella Mycorrhizal Carbon Program?has quietly lifted off.?Our inaugural cohort of pioneers represent 8 states, 25 growers and 18K acres.?
Keep an eye on our channels - we'll be sharing more soon!?
Get to know Groundwork
We believe in widely sharing the inspiring aspects of our work with mycorrhizae and soil.?In this spirit, we present our "Grow with Groundwork" social media campaign.?
Stay connected?to learn more about Groundwork BioAg, mycorrhizal fungi and sustainable agriculture.?
The annual Groundwork "Fun Day" was a success!?
We started the day in the Galilee hills for a company-style "escape room," continued with a dip in the sea, and ended with a delicious Mediterranean meal.?
Thank you?Sapir Vidal, HR Manager extraordinaire, for organizing memorable experiences that strengthen our teamwork!
What We're Reading
The US is dealing with?historic drought?and corn and soybeans are now in "the worst condition since 1988." Even recent rains haven't been enough to turn the tide. Our hearts are with the farmers struggling to save their crops, but mycorrhizal fungi's ability to maintain soil moisture and plant water uptake gives us hope.??
The moment we have been anticipating is here -?the carbon removal market "has lift off!"?With?300% growth?since April, carbon removal markets are now seen as "necessary and scalable." Trends are starting to favor permanent carbon removals in particular. Groundwork BioAg is on board and ready to play responsibly!?
