As we bid farewell to winter and welcome the warmth of spring, it's the perfect time to prepare your home for the new season ahead. From inspecting your outdoor spaces to ensuring your home is ready for the change in weather, we wanted to provide a checklist with some essential tips to get your home spring-ready!

#1 Inspect Your Roof: Winter weather can take a toll on your roof! Check for any missing or damaged shingles and make repairs, as needed, ?to prevent leaks.

#2 Clean Gutters and Downspouts: Remove debris from gutters and downspouts to ensure proper drainage! Clogged gutters will ultimately result in improper water management around the home, which can lead to foundation issues over time!

#3 Check Your Foundation: Inspect the foundation of your home for new cracks or any signs of water damage. Addressing these issues early can prevent costly repairs down the road!

#4 Service Your HVAC System: Schedule a professional HVAC inspection and service your unit to ensure your system is running efficiently. Clean or replace air filters to improve indoor air quality. Best to get this done early before the summer rush!

#5 Inspect Outdoor Faucets & Hose Bibs: Check outdoor faucets for leaks or damage. The winter weather and temps may have damaged outdoor plumbing. Review any visible plumbing lines BEFORE turning water back on, and keep a look out for leaks AFTER turning the water back on!

#6 Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Ensure all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in working order. Replace batteries if needed. This is a great habit to get into yearly!

#7 Inspect Deck and Patio: Check for any loose or damaged boards on your deck or patio. Try to understand how significant the recent winter has weathered your deck materials, and plan to make repairs, as needed, to ensure safety and longevity of the deck materials.

#8 Prepare Your Lawn and Garden: Start preparing your lawn and garden for spring by clearing debris, pruning plants, and applying fertilizer as needed.

#9 Review the condition of your driveway: You wouldn’t be the first one to take a chunk out of your asphalt driveway when plowing snow during the winter! Take note of any areas on your driveway that may have been damaged from plowing or even snow blowing and make plans to correct before next winter. Failing to repair even small driveway damage usually leads to the damage worsening significantly during future snow storms and subsequent snow removal!

#10 Schedule a Home Maintenance Check: If you have been in your home for a length of time and would like to know its status as viewed by a professional home inspector, consider scheduling a home maintenance check with us! Our team can identify any potential issues and provide recommendations to keep your home safe and comfortable. Book now
