Spring has not ended yet, still time to empty your HR closet.

Spring has not ended yet, still time to empty your HR closet.

HR and learning& development professionals are spending millions of dollars each year in various psychometrics. MBTI, DISC, emotional intelligence and the list is still long.

More than 85% of FTSE 100 companies are pouring tons of money in the holy grail of psychometrics, while most of managers in those organizations believe that they can’t keep up with such overwhelm.

My coaching conversations with clients often bring this fatidic question:

?????????????????????????????????????“So, this is another one???”

That keeps repeating and personally as a business coach and psychometric specialist, I take it as a legitimate question and as a challenge.

?But what could be a convincing answer to that without turning it into a sales rhetoric???

How to favour quality over quantity, a multitude of psychometrics and certifications and so what???

Is it making talent capital more future fit, more capable of switching from a role-based mindset to a skills-based mindset, and as a result benefiting the organization to raise to the new challenges?

I also asked myself the same question as a previous school leader and change catalyst in the education industry.

A number of questions that I will attempt to answer or at least bring my humble perspective to it.

-?? HR imperatives and priorities need to be clearly defined. What is under the circle of influence of HR specialists and what is more likely to fall under the leadership scope.

-? Identifying the change champions within the organization. Those that can identify when and which learning can take the organization to the next level. Learning circles and experience transfer can be a valuable start.

-? Psychometric providers and coaches alike have an ethical responsibility to present a solid business case for using such or such assessment, by enquiring first what is already in the HR closet. ?Identifying the psychometrics that can shape our story or the ones that will enable us to reach a common good (ESG Targets)

-? Reflecting and distancing yourself from your closet in order to bring a fresh outlook. I know that cognitive people like to learn so do I. Unlearning and critical thinking are even more important in this modern age.

-??Back to basics: powerful questioning, active listening, sound feedback and having different lenses can go a long way. ?
