Spring forward and make it happen!

‘Keep on Pushing – Develop Persistence, Ignite Passion, Find your Purpose’ was the title of an event I recently attended. A powerful session listening to an amazing human Devon Harris OLY, who took us on a journey of “Always follow your dreams, it doesn’t matter how impossible they might seem, pursue them”.

We all have a purpose, a vision, something we want to achieve in life, perhaps a legacy we want to leave. How you develop your people to ignite their passion and energy, whilst aligning their purpose with that of your business is key. Never has it been so important to understand what talent you have, where, and how, together, you will make your dreams come true.

We all have the opportunity to spring forward and make our dreams a reality, if we are clear on the outcome we want to achieve and what we need to make it happen. It is up to us. Devon shared a formula of C+P = Outcome. Circumstance + Perception = Outcome, it is up to us what we think and of course what we do! Being clear on where you are today, the circumstances around you, what is in your head, the heads of those around you, what’s standing in your way, is fundamental and then you can take BIG intentional action to make progress towards your dream.

As we step into the last month of the first quarter we no doubt have learnings to take on board and consider as we make the last month of Q1 count.

This NEWSLETTER provides a once-a-month moment to breathe, think, plan but also encourage action. An opportunity to unlock the power of your people.

This is a moment for YOU, it could mean YOUR team, it is relevant for all humans to UNLOCK their FULL potential to thrive.

This month is all about ensuring you have the right capability around you to make your dreams (purpose) a reality. Do you know what capability you have? How are you measuring it? How do you know what capability you need? How are you developing it?

Those of you that have taken the time to health check your business recently will be aware that the only way to fix operational issues is to understand the specific problem and how you can mobilise the power in your people to fix it. Your human assets are your most valuable. Your people will help you adapt and successfully come through any challenge if you have the right people in the right place at the right time. Now is the time to make sure you do.

A full review of your business must include your people and their capability. The macro-environment has changed significantly, perhaps you have had to pivot, you most definitely are operating in a different way, a hybrid, blended way, now and no doubt in the future. When thinking about how you will improve your costs, efficiency, performance, and culture it is not only your operational design that needs to be reviewed but also the skills and experience you need to execute on your goals and ambition.

Understanding the capability, you have and don’t have, is just as important as understanding your customers. Being clear on what you need to thrive in the external macro-environment is key to enable you to spring forward and make it happen.

If you have not already get your performance ‘health check’ underway to provide you with the confidence that you have the right people in the right place at the right time, doing the right things to ensure your business will perform at its best. Removing barriers to performance and progress.

This month’s KILLER QUESTIONS

  1. What skills and experiences do you currently have internally?
  2. How are you measuring the business impact of your talent?
  3. What capability do you need moving forward?
  4. How are you developing your talent? Building it? Buying it?
  5. Who is helping you ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time?

The answers to these simple questions help you to get clear on your current landscape and where you need to act. The more you know about your people the easier it is to be agile, intentional and mobilise your resources at pace. A simple performance health check can help you to quickly identify where the issues are, what needs to be prioritised, who needs to do what, and helps you to unlock the potential and power of your people.

Over the last month I have been working with my clients to do exactly that, to understand where they are and what they need to fully optimise the months ahead. Helping them to identify where the issues are, and pragmatically what they can do to mobilise change that in turn focuses resources on the biggest priority. With the last month of the first quarter in your hands, now is the time to ensure you are setting yourself and your people up for success for Q2.

Keep it simple, answer the Killer Questions and identify who can help you to get clear and ensure you have what you need to spring forward and make it happen.
