spring on the dock
As I turned 65 this spring I started to reflect on things gone by. .. I had my 'winter of discontent' then said.Screw that.... its what is ahead that matters to me..
I am learning and growing in construction and with new techniques everyday .I am building more ,faster, quicker, better results than ever.
I am using Superior Walls for the best pre cast foundations I can imagine The walls are pre studded, pre insulated to r 12.5, fully integrated into a berm for additional r value through passive geo thermal ...amazing that the foundation went up in less than 4 days completed.
I am a big guy and the weight of tools never bothered me that's why I used a Dewalt rafter saw from 1980 for many years. The battery and charger are no longer in production so I took a flyer and bought a 40 and 65 volt battery operated new domestic saw. Its amazing how long these new lithium batteries last on the job. I am getting four hours per charge heavy in useage. This is a big increase in production, to what I call up and down ladder time , and sticking to task...My POP use to say that Tools don't make the man' but in this case tools keep this old man focused and in place to do more.
My youngest proud to say is an Interior Estimator now learning the trade from my great son in law Mike. I questioned Brian about his knowledge already and he shot back at me a correct answer and said his on screen takeoff program would have my answer in three minutes.. Three minutes that's about 180 minutes less than me drawing it and doing it on the sheets. It is amazing what I just learned about Estimating production. When we compared the figures we both almost the same. my time for production was off a bit.
I am about to embark on a large Civil job this week and have KVETCHED over it for months. I had to move a stream bed last year re directing and deepening the bed to allow de watering to occur near where I am doing the new foundations.
I am going to use GPR. new perk tests and a few other new machines that my dad would have marveled at. I guess the older we get the more we learn ..
as the old men here use to say just because there is SNOW on the Roof doesn't mean there is no Fire in the Kitchen
