"Spring Chicken.........."

In 1981, a refinery on the S.W peninsula of the United Kingdom installed the latest calibration technology to ensure their jetty export meters were operating at premium efficiency. This new technology was called a Compact Prover.

Over the next 40 (forty) years this Compact Prover provided unparalleled service ensuring the refinery export meters were calibrated to the tolerances required for custody transfer applications.

After four decades of service, the saline elements of this marine application left their mark on this workhorse and the end user reached out for help. After many failed attempts to gain aftermarket support over a period of 18 months from a number of different providers, the operations team were advised that the unit was beyond repair and needed to be replaced. The refinery engineering group in their effort to source a replacement prover learned that Brodie International had acquired the Compact Prover portfolio and reached out for assistance.

This led to some initial conference calls reassuring the end user that this “veteran” still had plenty of life left in it. A site visit by TEAMBrodie followed to carry out an evaluation on the “condemned” unit and provide a report/path forward.

A unique and rewarding project followed with Brodie supplying a modular skid containing both hydraulic and electrical components that would simply be a “drop in” replacement for some of the original components that have served the end user so well for decades.

The skid containing the new electrical and hydraulic components was built and shipped from Statesboro, GA and upon arrival in the UK, Brodie assigned the task of installation to our service partner, Trillium Measurement & Control, who have decades of experience of working with the Compact Prover.

Trillium’s Dave Coone arrived on the site in September 2023 to install the modular skid and start up the rehabilitated prover. Dave also replaced the internal piston seals , carried out a water draw and commissioned the unit.

This forty year old Compact Prover is now back in full operation and to use a phrase from the end user is now “working like a spring chicken”.

This whole rehabilitation exercise was carried out at a fraction of the cost to replace the prover and further demonstrates Brodie’s commitment to our inherited installed base.

Since Brodie’s acquisition of the worlds most popular Compact Prover, the response from the market has been overwhelmingly positive and with success stories like this (and there are many more to come, so stay tuned), we look forward to a very exciting future with the most popular and durable Compact Prover in the world.

It's good as new and gonna be delivering its performance for many years more. I guees my order was among the first that came when Brodie took it over. Everything went smoothly.

Good to see this aging workhorse turned into a spring chicken to maintain optimal liquid custody transfer metering!
