Gaining Real-World Experience:

Throughout my internship, I discovered the true value of my education in preparing me for the workforce. My Masters in Business Analytics & Project Management program equipped me with an arsenal of invaluable skills to excel as a Product Manager & become a Strategic Leader. However, I quickly realized that hands-on experience is irreplaceable. The practical setting of my internship allowed me to apply my classroom learnings and gain insights and knowledge that cannot be obtained through theoretical studies alone.

Understanding the Role and Industry:

Working as a Product Manager at Tesla broadened my understanding of the profession, organizational culture, and the industry. I deepened my knowledge of the role's responsibilities, such as defining and delivering product vision and strategy, collaborating with cross-functional teams, capturing requirements, and prioritizing features and enhancements. I also developed a profound appreciation for the importance of effective communication, collaboration, and user interaction in product development.

Moreover, my internship exposed me to the Automobile Supply Chain Industry, where technology plays a pivotal role in shaping its future. Witnessing how Tesla incorporates cutting-edge technology into its operations was inspiring and highlighted the transformative potential of innovation in the industry.

Responsibilities, Achievements, and Learning:

As a Software Product Manager, I undertook various responsibilities to ensure the success of Tesla's inbuilt warehouse management system. These responsibilities included defining the product vision and strategy, creating roadmaps and customer scenarios, capturing requirements, and suggesting solutions aligned with current operations and future growth plans. I collaborated with cross-functional teams, such as developers, QA, application support, process engineers, and business stakeholders, to deliver top-notch business-specific applications.

To ensure continuous improvement, I closely monitored key performance indicators (KPIs) related to customer satisfaction and business impact. Analyzing the data from these KPIs enabled me to make informed decisions and drive the product's success. Additionally, I conducted user acceptance tests (UAT) and created comprehensive product documentation to facilitate smooth onboarding and a clear understanding of the product's functionality.

One of the most significant achievements during my internship was successfully integrating two independent warehouse management systems into one cohesive solution. This complex project required meticulous planning, collaboration with various teams and stakeholders, and identifying areas for improvement. By thinking outside the box and designing a new flow, I eliminated redundancy and ensured scalability. This integration resulted in enhanced efficiency and productivity within the warehouse management system. This accomplishment taught me the value of teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

During my internship, I also recognized the vital role of user interaction. Engaging with users, conducting acceptance tests, and actively seeking feedback allowed me to enhance the product's usability and address user pain points effectively. These experiences honed my problem-solving skills and reinforced the importance of collaboration and effective communication with stakeholders.

Furthermore, I leveraged my interest in data-informed solutions by utilizing Tableau, SQL, and Python to tackle specific use cases. This experience aligned with my long-term goal of becoming a Data Product Manager and underscored the significance of data-driven decision-making in achieving product success. It expanded my knowledge beyond my immediate role, providing a broader perspective on Supply Chain Management at Tesla. Proactively engaging with other teams through coffee chats and meetings allowed me to understand the upstream and downstream workflow, contributing to a holistic understanding of Tesla's entire supply chain process.
