The Latest at Spreetail

In June, Amazon made an announcement that applications would be reopening this year for Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP). In this month's newsletter, we will delve into what this reopening means for brands aiming to apply for SFP, the requirements and benefits of earning SFP, and explore alternative avenues to attain Prime badge status for your products.

When Was SFP Originally Launched?

SFP originally launched in 2015. It introduced an innovative solution for brands to independently manage their fulfillment process while providing fast and free delivery to Prime customers. This program empowered brands with greater control over their operations, enhancing the overall shopping experience for Amazon customers.

Why Was Open Enrollment for SFP Paused?

The temporary suspension of SFP enrollment occurred as Amazon acknowledged the growing challenges in meeting the high-quality standards expected by Prime customers. The decision to pause new enrollments was a proactive step taken to ensure that both customers and sellers could enjoy an exceptional Prime experience. During this period, Amazon dedicated its efforts to fine-tuning the program and implementing clear standards to enhance support for sellers and deliver an outstanding service to its valued customers.

According to Spreetail's Sr. Director of Amazon Marketplace Chad Zottoli , "After Amazon shut down enrollment, Spreetail was grandfathered into the program because of our SFP performance, large network of Fulfillment Centers, company size, and number of brand partners. Spreetail worked hand-in-hand with Amazon ever since to help guide the program tools and drive further improvement in our delivery performance for customers."

Why Is SFP Reopening?

The decision to reopen SFP stems from the rising standards set for the program. Qualified sellers have been challenged to elevate their performance and Spreetail has made significant strides to not only meet but surpass expectations.

Chad Zottoli says, "We believe Spreetail's work in providing data and feedback for Amazon, improved delivery metrics for customers, and our broad inventory selection all helped drive the reopening of the program."

The significant improvements made by current SFP partners further encourage Amazon to reopen SFP for new enrollments, offering more brands the opportunity to deliver top-notch service to Prime customers.

Becoming Prime-Eligible

Prior to the reopening of SFP, brands had limited options to achieve Prime status for their products. The first method involved joining the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) program, which offers warehousing, fulfillment, and returns handled by Amazon through a pay-as-you-go service. However, this approach may not be ideal for all products, particularly oversized or bulky items, due to potentially high storage and shipping fees. The second avenue is Vendor Central, where brands sell products directly to Amazon for marketing and selling on the platform, but this option is typically invitation-only.

With the reintroduction of SFP, brands now have a more accessible and flexible pathway to attain Prime eligibility. SFP empowers brands to independently manage their fulfillment process while ensuring fast and free delivery to Prime customers. This presents a compelling opportunity for brands seeking to attain Prime status without the constraints of the previous options.

Applying for SFP

To ensure an exceptional customer experience for Prime members, earning SFP status demands meeting a set of rigorous requirements. We have prepared a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to Prime Badge eligibility , providing a detailed breakdown of these criteria.
