Happy Holidays, Connections!
A few years ago, I was approached by a large leadership recruiting company that made me "an offer I couldn't refuse." They wanted to buy my firm. It turns out I could refuse their offer...and I did. Was I crazy to pass up the opportunity for a good-sized payout? Not at all. The cost of that deal would've far outweighed any benefit.
First, as a boutique executive recruiting firm, our size (and expert recruiters) enables us to forge personalized relationships with each client. Had TurningPoint been absorbed into a larger firm, the chances of maintaining that level of connection with our clients would've been lost.
An even bigger loss would have been the connection between my team and I. As a small business owner, I have the privilege of engaging with my team on a daily basis. We make business decisions, collaborate on searches, and have built personal relationships by sharing funny (and not-so-funny) stories about our families and life events. The connection goes beyond the professional; it's personal.
I take great pride in regularly treating my team to special gifts of appreciation throughout the year, not just during the holiday season. Several years ago, I introduced the "Me Time" initiative, a program where I reimburse employees up to $100/mo to indulge in an activity that brings personal joy and relaxation. These small yet meaningful gestures substantially elevate employee satisfaction, boost productivity, and, above all, foster genuine happiness. It brings to mind a principle I firmly stand by, and forgive me for quoting my own words , "As a boss, it's far better to give than to take. Life's not easy these days for anybody, so why not help reduce stress levels and incentivize people to care for themselves? Why not use your leadership position to help provide more life satisfaction for your team?"
However, you don't have to have a small company to treat your team. Now that the holidays are upon us, a little extra effort in gift-giving is a surefire way to delight your team and encourage their personal and professional growth. We have some unique and creative ways for you to show your employees your appreciation during the holidays [Infographic Link ].
