There are over 44,000 food insecure children in Collin County alone. Yes, affluent Collin County has a hunger problem! These kids depend on a number of programs to get them through the day at school and sustain them though the weekend.
One of my favorite ways to help is participating in the Collin County Peanut Butter Drive!
Though named for Collin County the collection of Peanut Butter is coordinated by area volunteers, most notably my beautiful and generous wife Michele Mecca, and endorsed by area mayors and even Dallas City Council member Cara Mendelsohn and will help 14 counties including Collin. Unlike about any other donated food, Peanut Butter is Perfect: High in protein, provides quick energy, lasts on pantry shelves, and, most importantly for kids, its YUMMY!!!! But Peanut Butter is in HIGH DEMAND.
The North Texas Food Bank and Michele's efforts to help collect 100,000 pounds of Peanut Butter will still be outpaced by demand. Everyone from youth sports teams to companies get into the action! September is the time of North Texas Giving Day and for the entire month, NTFB has a focus to collect Peanut Butter.
“This is the time of year where our community comes together to spread hope with their generosity and care" Mayor LaRosiliere, Plano. But, totals are only counted toward this goal until September 30th. So, get a few pounds and drop them by any of the drop sites around the area or take to NTFB yourself!
