SPOTLIGHT ON TIFF - THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

SPOTLIGHT ON TIFF - THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

Our 6th showcase on Core composers at TIFF goes to David Wall & Adam White and their score for the revolutionizing documentary THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. Directed by journalist and filmmaker Avi Lewis (The Take) and produced in conjunction with Naomi Klein's bestselling book of the same name, this urgent dispatch on climate change contends that the greatest crises we have ever faced also offers us the greatest opportunity for change.

David Wall: Much of the score revolves around two basic sound world's; the colder, industrialized world of industry and the warmer, more humane world of activists. We emphasized this contrast by using a mixed set of aural ingredients to fit different situations. Thus synth pads mixed with strings were used in several instances, reflecting the fact that modern activism is very much part of a technological continuum, albeit a relatively benign one.

Adam White: Avi brought in a bottle of whiskey called "Writers Tears" to the spotting session. He's very sympathetic to the struggles inherent to writing music; the high of the director's "I LOVE IT", and the low of the director's "DO IT AGAIN." So there were some actual tears shed. Creative exhaustion is great bonding.
