Spotlight: Sydney Clark

Sydney's career journey reflects the winding path many take in finding their true passion. Hailing from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Sydney initially set her sights on a career in law. However, after a single coding class in high school, her interests began to shift towards engineering and she made her way to UW Madison for college.

Choosing computer engineering as her initial focus, Sydney soon found herself fascinated with the field before eventually shifting to a major in electrical engineering. Her time in college was not only marked by academic pursuits but also by her active involvement in college rugby, where she excelled as the eighth-man!

Sydney's professional journey began with co-op experiences at Extreme Engineering Solutions and later at GE HealthCare's Madison ARC team. It was during this internship, amidst the challenges of a post-pandemic world, that Sydney discovered her passion for healthcare technology. The Edison Program at GE HealthCare provides her with unique rotations, allowing her to continue to explore different aspects of engineering. In her first rotation, Sydney worked on the MR transmit chain team, doing FPGA design, and schematic/filter reviews and creation. This paired well with her digital design specialization she had grown during her time as an undergraduate.

Sydney is currently in her second rotation working in Maternal Infant Care. She transitioned from hardware to software for this assignment, focusing on Advanced Technology Design (ATD) for giraffe warmer incubators. In this role, she develops embedded software for the beds, incorporating features such as a security system for badge access and hands-free alarm shut-off to maintain a sterile environment.

Looking forward, Sydney aims to return to the hardware side of engineering while further developing her technical expertise. She plans to pursue grad school as a part of the EEDP program’s C-Course and is in the process of deciding on the best matched graduate program. Beyond her professional pursuits, Sydney enjoys exploring Milwaukee's offerings, indulging in trivia nights, and honing her skills in crocheting, rock climbing, and biking during the summer.

Sydney finds inspiration in continuous learning opportunities, particularly through lunchtime learning sessions and engaging discussions with passionate individuals. When it's time to unwind, she enjoys immersing herself in the light-hearted humor of "Derry Girls" on Netflix.

As Sydney continues to navigate her career in engineering, her determination and genuine curiosity promise to guide her towards future success and fulfillment!
