Introduction?

SpaceAge Labs is a Singaporean start-up that provides cutting edge remote monitoring and IoT solutions combining hardware, low power wireless connectivity and advanced software that helps operations and maintenance teams increase uptime, reduce costs and improve safety. SpaceAge Labs has been revolutionizing operations and maintenance of remote and distributed assets for landscape, water and outdoor facilities.?

?Their Journey?

SpaceAge Labs’ CEO, Deepak Pitta, did his post-graduate degree in Mechatronics in the National University of Singapore after graduating as an electrical engineer from the Nanyang Technological University. After spending more than half a decade working at a MNC as an instrumentation and controls engineer, Deepak left to explore the world for 9 months. After spending months backpacking and re-discovering himself, he returned to Singapore to start a company with a couple of friends that is now SpaceAge Labs!?

When SpaceAge Labs was founded, it was intended to be a dynamic IoT solution provider, focusing mainly on the hardware. However, once they realized that the complementary software market for IoT solutions was also extremely attractive, they pivoted slightly.??

?SpaceAge Labs team managed to solve a critical problem for the Public Utilities Board (PUB) in Singapore. Previously, PUB could only detect an overflow of water or sewage from manholes about an hour before it occurs. However, Deepak and his team not only used Artificial Intelligence to be able to predict a potential overflow 2 weeks before it occurs but also built the hardware in-house, creating sturdy sensors that can operate in adverse conditions with waste, oil, etc. flowing past them. This allowed PUB to fix the issues and ensure manholes do not overflow.??

?This successful project led to SpaceAge Labs attaining more clients from government agencies as well as government linked companies within Singapore, namely Resorts World Sentosa, JTC and River Safari. SpaceAge Labs also solved a unique problem for NParks in Singapore. They designed and manufactured devices to be on sub-contractors' machines to track their landscaping work. This allowed NParks to devote far less time and effort to check if the sub-contractors were doing their jobs in landscaping the areas that were assigned to them. NParks employees could check this in the comfort of their offices as SpaceAge Labs’ IoT solution uploads the data to a cloud that would show the completion rate, length of grass among other information, providing real-time updates.??

Future?

With COVID-19 hindering the growth of many other start-ups, SpaceAge Labs is aiming to showcase its end-to-end solution that includes software and hardware with COVID restrictions being in place. However, SpaceAge Labs is on track to expand globally, eyeing the landscaping markets in the USA, Australia and Malaysia.

Deepak and his team are very interested in collaborating with other companies in similar industries to explore synergies and to do knowledge-sharing!
