Located in the south of Mallorca and just 15 minutes by taxi or bus from the airport, Palma offers a simple way to get around with its long, straight avenues. Its main square is Placa Major and the main areas to explore include the old town, Passeig del Born, La Rambla, and Paseo Maritimo, which is near the gothic cathedral La Seu. Famed Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi redesigned parts of the interior though the building was built between the 13th and 17th centuries.
If you are looking for some trendy shopping Palma has it – just remember that some boutiques still close for siesta time (usually 2-5pm). The main shopping areas are around Born, Via Roma, and Pla?a Major.
Visit the Joan Miró Foundation – a museum in Cala Mayor dedicated to the work of this surrealist artist. Enjoy the sculpture garden and Miró’s studio and workshop – which includes drawings, sculptures, and of course, his paintings. On any visitor’s list is the 14th century palace La Almudaina which is still currently used by the King of Spain. Consider a stroll and a picnic in the Parc del Mar – a central park – located near the cathedral. Sometimes, visitors might stumble across an open-air concert or cinema.
One of the best places to enjoy a sunset cocktail is Es Baluard Restaurant and Lounge located in the Es Baluard modern art museum. Expect views of the Palma and cathedral. Another option is a visit to the hotel Portals Nous where its famed Sky Bar offers spectacular views.
Consider staying at the very boutique hotel Can Alomar which is located in a 15th-century building. The property has a pool, sun terrace and spa.
